Editorial Policy

CalmNightly publishes practical, evidence-informed information about sleep. This policy explains how topics are selected, how sources are evaluated, how articles are written, and how corrections are handled.

Our purpose

Our goal is to help readers understand sleep research and make more informed decisions about questions to discuss with qualified healthcare professionals. We aim to make complex information useful without presenting uncertainty as certainty or general education as personal medical advice.

Scope

CalmNightly covers sleep habits, insomnia, nighttime awakenings, circadian rhythm, sleep apnea awareness, and the evidence and safety considerations surrounding common sleep supplements. We do not provide diagnoses, individualized treatment plans, emergency guidance, or instructions to start, stop, or change prescribed treatment.

Source standards

Writers prioritize the strongest and most relevant sources available, including:

  • Systematic reviews and meta-analyses
  • Peer-reviewed human clinical studies
  • Clinical guidelines and consensus statements
  • Government and public-health agencies
  • Recognized hospitals, universities, and professional medical organizations

Animal studies, laboratory research, small observational studies, and manufacturer-funded studies may be discussed when relevant, but their limitations should be made clear. Product marketing, social-media claims, and personal testimonials are not treated as proof of effectiveness.

How evidence is presented

Articles distinguish between established guidance, promising but limited findings, mixed evidence, and claims that are not supported by reliable research. Where possible, we identify important limitations such as small sample sizes, short study duration, indirect outcomes, conflicts of interest, or a lack of replication.

Headlines and summaries should reflect the evidence in the article. We avoid guarantees, cure claims, fear-based language, and statements that imply a supplement or habit can replace appropriate medical evaluation.

Writing and review process

  1. A topic is selected based on reader usefulness, search demand, safety importance, or a gap in existing coverage.
  2. Relevant sources are gathered and compared, with preference given to recent high-quality reviews and guidelines.
  3. The article is drafted in plain language, with links to key supporting sources.
  4. Claims, dates, dosages, contraindications, and source links are checked before publication.
  5. The article is revised when new evidence or safety guidance materially changes the subject.

Digital tools may be used to organize research or assist drafting. They do not replace human editorial review. The named author remains responsible for checking claims, sources, clarity, and the final published text.

Medical review

Unless an article explicitly names a qualified medical reviewer, it has not received a formal clinical review. CalmNightly does not imply medical review through design, wording, or anonymous expert claims. The primary writer, Daniel Wright, is not a licensed healthcare professional.

Updates and corrections

We review articles when significant new evidence, updated clinical guidance, broken sources, or reader feedback indicates that a change may be needed. Minor edits may be made for clarity, formatting, or links. Material corrections should be made promptly and transparently within the article when context requires it.

To report a factual error or broken source, use the contact page and include the article URL and the specific statement in question.

Editorial independence and commercial relationships

Commercial relationships do not determine the conclusions of an article. If CalmNightly uses affiliate links or receives compensation connected to a recommendation, that relationship should be disclosed clearly near the relevant content. Payment does not guarantee positive coverage.

Reader responsibility

Sleep symptoms can have many causes, and information that is appropriate for one person may be unsafe for another. Readers should use CalmNightly as an educational resource and consult an appropriate professional for personal health decisions. See the full Medical Disclaimer.
